District PolioPlus Committee

PolioPlus Chair: Marny Eulberg

What is the PolioPlus Society?

The PolioPlus Society (PPS) was established to promote sustainable giving among Rotarians. Members commit to donating a minimum of $100 annually to the PolioPlus Fund until polio is eradicated worldwide.

  • Society members receive a special PPS pin and a certificate.

  • You can find the flyer and enrollment form on the left side of this page.

PPS Kennel Klub – Pets can pledge to give up treats and donate $10/month or $100/year to PolioPlus. They’ll receive a bandana and opportunities to participate in fun contests with nice prizes.

Why is Polio Eradication Important?

  • Rotary’s Top Priority: Eradicating polio continues as Rotary’s number one global humanitarian project.

  • No Cure, Only Prevention: There is no cure for polio; immunization is the only prevention.

Rotary’s Progress and Commitment

  • Current Status: We are This Close to eradicating polio, but ongoing efforts are crucial.

  • Financial Contributions: Since 1985, Rotary International (RI) has raised and distributed approximately 10% of the total eradication costs.

  • Gates Foundation Partnership: The Gates Foundation matches Rotary’s $50 million raised each year with $100 million, totaling $150 million annually.

  • Future Goals: After the last case of polio, 450 million children under age 5 must still be immunized annually for three years to ensure the virus is fully eradicated.

District 5450’s Role

  • Club Contributions: Clubs are encouraged to contribute $50 per member toward polio eradication.

    • RI recommends $1,500 per club.

    • The District 5450 PolioPlus Committee acknowledges donations may vary depending on club size.

  • Support and Resources: The District PolioPlus Committee provides information, speakers, flyers, and support for club fundraisers and community awareness programs.
