DG JIM JOHNSTON'S MONTHLY MESSAGE

An Amazing End to an Amazing Year!

I write to you from Singapore just after the conclusion of the 2024 Rotary International Convention. Fourteen thousand members came together for nonstop official and unofficial gatherings of resources, passions, stories of need…and such a diversity of smiles! And selfies, too. I cannot begin to count the number of times I heard, “Let’s take a picture!” to capture the thrill of a new connection, a chance conversation, a pending opportunity. President Gordon McInally closed out saying, “It has been an absolute pleasure to be your president of Rotary.” He was serious and pensive recounting a few highlights. He saluted the leaders who came before him and those in line to follow, and he implored us to continue our efforts to create peace and address mental health.

For me, the sentiment is the same. It has been an honor, a pleasure and a lifechanging affair to be the governor of District 5450. Club visits opened my eyes to the breadth of projects underway by all of you. Amazing!! You perpetually express passion for service and find new ways of engaging with communities and creating hope in the world. When club leadership issues are hard, you keep showing up. I am deeply impressed.

I implore us to continue our efforts, this time with Governor Tamie Fennell at the wheel! Just after summer is our District Conference along with RISE Leadership programming, then a reimagined Foundation dinner, PETS and a huge June convention in Calgary. And speaking of the wheel…from Singapore I have many new Rotary “wheels” pinned to my lanyard and each one turnssparks imagination, and creates hope. Let’s keep it going.
THE DISTRICT IS HERE FOR YOU

Organizers also estimate that Colorado Rotarians raised $143,000 to support future efforts of individual clubs. Click Here to Read More!

CRUTCHES 4 AFRICA (www.crutches4africa.org) had an extremely successful project for the Epic Day of Service - Mountain Foothills helped organize the May 11 loading of a variety of mobility devices into the 40-foot container that then headed to Africa. Steamboat Springs in District 5440 also contributed devices to the final count. Click Here to read more and see the photos!

HAPPY ALMOST NEW ROTARY YEAR! SUMMER’S COMING! As this Rotary year nears its end, we want to thank you for supporting The Rotary Foundation. Because of you, more Rotary members in your community and around the world have been able to take action and make an impact. Your support meant that more projects were possible, more people were served, and more problems were solved.

The Rotary Foundation has established a temporary Brazil Flood Response Fund. It will finance disaster response grants to assist communities in southern Brazil that have experienced devastating floods. Click here to read more and learn how to donate.

JUNE IS ROTARY FELLOWSHIP MONTH - Rotary Fellowships are international groups that share a common passion. Being part of a fellowship is a fun way to make friends around the world, explore a hobby or profession, and enhance your Rotary experience. Sharing fellowship is a great way to stay connected, learn something new, connect to new project ideas possibly for grants, or even to help your fellow Rotarians.

SERVING FOR THE PAST 7 YEARS - Trustee Chair's Message: Every June, we in Rotary look back at our accomplishments and plan for what’s next. For me, this month is the end of seven years in Rotary leadership that began as president-elect of RI. It’s remarkable how far we have come during that time, and how much we’ve done through The Rotary Foundation. We wouldn’t be where we are without your support and without you dreaming big. Click Here to read more.

GLOBAL GRANTS – PROGRAMS OF SCALE: At the 2023 Rotary International Convention in Melbourne, The Rotary Foundation announced United to End Cervical Cancer in Egypt, our third Rotary Programs of Scale awardee. The initiative aims to vaccinate more than 32,000 girls against HPV and screen 10,000 women for cervical cancer in greater Cairo with the Egyptian Ministry of Health وزارة الصحة والسكان المصرية and Partners. Another example of the power of partnerships and how Rotary can create impactful projects that create lasting change, and how your donations will impact whole cities.

The Rotary Foundation 2023-24 YEAR END UPDATE - Giving today to the Annual Fund Share will help fulfill our project resource pipeline down the line. Website www.rotary.org/donate is the easiest way to give today!

Can we as a district have 100% of clubs achieve banners this year? Clubs have several opportunities to receive banners, recognizing their level of support. Banners include 100% Foundation Giving Club, 100% Every Rotarian, Every Year Club and 100% Paul Harris Society Club. Use Foundation reports like the Club Foundation Banner Report and the Club Recognition Summary to monitor a club's progress towards giving and recognition goals.

During #Rotary24 in Singapore, attendees of our annual Donor Summit gathered to envision what is next for The Rotary Foundation. Rotary’s generous donors plant the seeds of hope in communities near and far. Thank you for your commitment to doing good in the world. https://twitter.com/i/status/1795455280211202150

DISTRICT 5450 GRANTS - Congratulations District 5450 Rotarians! We have spent all of this year’s District Designated Funds Grant financial resources available. We will start over in the new Rotary year, 2024-2025 on July 1.

REGISTER NOW for the Grants/Club Qualification Training in person on Saturday, June 15 at Front Range Community College. This event will meet the training requirement for any Club that wants to sponsor a Rotary Grant in 2024-2025.  Note that the lead Club on a Grant must be qualified before the Grant is approved.

This training is recommended for the lead Rotarian on a Grant, as well as incoming Club Presidents, Foundation Chairs, and Club Grant Committee Chairs. Topics will include Club Qualification requirements (MOU and Club IRS filing documentation), District Grants, Global Grants and Reporting and Stewardship.

Calling all President Elects! Here are the Rotary Foundation PE's top 3 tips of the month: (1) in the next few weeks, work with your Rotary Foundation or Club Foundation chair to determine dollar amount goals for Annual Fund and PolioPlus for the Rotary year 2024-2025 and report those goals on Rotary Club Central, (2) work with your chairs to select and prepare your foundation (Club and or Rotary) committee members for 2024-2025, and (3) by July 1, create subcommittees or teams as needed to help solidify your work in the upcoming year with PolioPlus, Annual Fund giving, Rotary Foundation education, grants/projects, etc.

Enjoy this incredible journey leading your Rotary club! Please contact David Willman, current Rotary 5450 Foundation Chair, at foundation@rotary5450.org if The District 5450 Rotary Foundation Team can help in any way.
