Team's Home - Denver
(Metro Area) Colorado...
Denver, the capital of
Colorado, was established by a party of prospectors on November 22,
1858, after a gold discovery at the confluence of Cherry Creek and the
South Platte River. Town founders named the dusty crossroads for James
W. Denver, Governor of Kansas Territory, of which eastern Colorado was
then a part. Today Denver has a population of 554,636 and covers an
area of 154.63 square miles. Located at an altitude of 5,280 feet,
Denver is known as the "Mile High City."
