JUNE 2016
THANK YOU FOR ALLOWING ME TO SERVE YOU

As this Rotary Year draws to a close I would like to say to all Rotarians of District 5450 what an honor and privilege it has been to serve as your District Governor.

Thank you for your hospitality and kind words when Earl and I have visited your Clubs. We have traveled to the four corners of our District during this year and have made many new Rotary friends. We have seen the many projects and programs that our Clubs are undertaking and have been so impressed. A few examples that come to mind: an essay contest between high school seniors incorporating the four way test into an everyday life experience; peaceful school programs involving our Interact students; community hero recognition of local fire fighters, teachers, police and health care workers; these and many more have inspired us and shown how Rotarians are serving others.

As outgoing RIP Ravi so eloquently states, and I echo, "I am prouder than ever to be part of this great organization: one that makes the world not poorer, but richer; replaces despair with hope; raises up those whom fate has brought low; and is a gift to so many, while allowing each of us to Be a Gift to the World.”

2016 COUNCIL GRANTS CLUBS GREATER FLEXIBILITY

*** ATTENTION: IMPORTANT INFORMATION ***

The 2016 Council on Legislation adopted a number of forward looking enactments, including several that provide greater membership and meeting flexibility. These approved changes in policy will give those clubs that so desire more freedom to determine the categories of membership they offer and when, where, and how a club chooses to meet.

Rotary has consistently found that when clubs are given the freedom to determine how to hold their meetings, the composition of their membership, and what defines engagement, club's are more vibrant and better able to grow.  Please click on the attached flyer to learn about the membership and meeting flexibility decisions and the impact they will have on our organization’s growth in the years ahead.

OUR REQUESTS FOR FLEXIBILITY HAVE BEEN MET

If you are a long-time Rotarian, this may be a shock to you. If you’re a less tenured Rotarian, this may come as a surprise as well as a validation of what many of us have been asking for if not already doing.

According to our Regional Membership Officer Julie Aubry, the 2016 Council on Legislation took the bold but necessary steps to empower Rotary clubs to remain relevant to their current and prospective members. Several enactments were passed giving clubs the option of amending very specific sections of their club by-laws that will allow for greater flexibility in regards to the time, location, and format of club meetings, as well as the categories of membership they may offer.”
