Happy New Year & Let the Second Half Begin!

DG Dan Himelspach
January 2014

Happy New Year to one and all! As you can see we have implemented a new format for our District Newsletter!  Marge Mercurio, our editor, Bev Mendel, our District Office Manager and I hope this format will make the newsletter easier to prepare, more readable and useable for our Rotarians.  Our publisher, Dale Flowers deserves a round of applause for all his hard work and dedication on the layout and publication of the District 5450 newsletters prior to this rollout!

As we enter the second half of the Rotary Year, I want to acknowledge with appreciation the unbelievable group of Rotarians we have as Assistant Governors, Presidents, Committee Chairs and Committee Members who have worked so hard and accomplished so much in just six months.  We still have a lot of work and excitement ahead.  The District Conference is May 2-4, 2014 and is shaping up to be an incredible event.  You do not want to miss this year’s District Conference.

We have two major focuses for the second half of the Rotary Year:

  1. Membership:  I ask that all of you take a new approach and rethink how we strive to resolve our membership issue.  We continue to lose members and it is time to seriously ask the question, “What will it take to increase membership in Rotary?”  While many will have detailed responses to that question, I ask that you simply seek out and explore two concepts with potential members: 1) How Rotary can be of value to him/her? and 2) How will Rotary fit into his/her lifestyle

In other words what do potential members get out of it if they join and are they in a position to do what is necessary to be benefited by Rotary?  An insightful and truthful response to these two questions will produce an excellent chance of attracting new Rotarians to your club.  These are fundamental concerns for each of us.  Answer the questions as if you were answering them for yourself.

  2. Annual Fund Donations:  I know it is tiresome to continually be asked to donate to The Rotary Foundation.  The simple truth is only thru donations are we are able to do all the projects we do and change the world as we have.  I feel every Rotarian should donate something to The Rotary Foundation.

It does not have to be any certain amount.  It is more important that it is something so everyone has ownership in our great organization and feels they have a piece of the action.  This is an active District and the only way to continue our extraordinary service is to provide the financial resources to make that happen.

I wish each of you a Prosperous and Happy New Year.

It’s a NEW YEAR & time to try a NEW LOOK !!!

ClubRunner has upgraded to version 3.0 which means the newsletter is more robust, easier to create and most of all – is searchable!

Searchable? If you submit an article about your project, event, members, collaborations and all those other wonderful things we read about – they can be ‘googled’ and read by the rest of the world! The stories in this new format can be shared with potential members, newspapers, colleagues, friends and family.

Want to get your news in the bulletin? Wonder when you need to submit your stories? Have some fun pictures to share???  Keep reading ...

Did You Notice Any Website Updates?!

The Rotary District 5450 web site is now using ClubRunner 3.0!  By using the newest version, our District has much more control over what is (and isn't) on the Home page giving it a cleaner look, and hopefully easier access to the information members want to access!

Some of the features are the same -- for example, "Upcoming Events."  This is where registration for all District Events can be found.  The "Directories" section on the right side of the Home page includes links to the District and Club Officers (updated 12/30/13), Club Contacts and Meeting Times, and the District Organization Chart.  We hope to add a directory for all Club members soon.  Some of these directories are password protected - if you do not know your login just click "Retrieve my Login" to reset the information.  Keep reading ...
WAIT A MINUTE!!!!

Wondering where the articles and club photos are for the January issue?
We wanted to rollout this simple version to you on the FIRST DAY of a NEW YEAR.
So get your stories (400 words or less with photos) to us by the 20th of each month and we'll plan to get the newsletter out on the FIRST of each month!

Thanks for your patience!
